Meet the Teleforum Panel

Della Mcgaw, HEU:

Della Mcgaw joins the panel with over 18 years of experience as a front-line care worker, prior to joining the Hospital Employee’s Union(HEU). While working as a care aide, Della served on the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee(JOHSC), promoting safe and health work practices. Having worked for HEU for the past 10 years, with three years in the Occupational Health and Safety Department, Della brings a front-line perspective to the panel.

Mark Slobin, HEABC:

Mark is the executive director of affiliate and Occupational Health & Safety(OHS) services at HEABC.  He has been there for many years in a variety of roles.  He has recently taken on the OHS role but has worked with LTC employers in a variety of human resource capacities since the late 1980s.  Mark is very keen to support affiliate members of HEABC to improve their health, safety, and disability management programs to help with the bottom line, resident care, productivity, and morale.

Michael Sager, WorkSafeBC:

Mike Sagar has worked at WorkSafeBC on injury prevention initiatives for the health care sector in BC since 2000. His primary focus has been related to aggressive and violent residents and the prevention of overexertion injuries, and he has a special interest in the post-secondary programs which teach future care workers. He chaired the local organizing committee of the 2012 International Conference on Violence in the Health Sector, held in Richmond.

Daniel Fontaine, BC Care Providers Association:

Daniel Fontaine is the CEO of the BC Care Providers Association. The BCCPA is the leading industry association representing over 230 residential, home and community care and commercial members working within the continuing care sector in BC. Before joining the BCCPA, Daniel worked in senior positions within government and the private sector. Daniel also played an instrumental role in helping to shepherd the SafeCare BC application past the finish line last year and has been working closely to help SafeCare BC get established and operational.
