Operation Protect Exceeds One Million Donated Items
SafeCare BC’s Operation Protect exceeds goal of one million donated items of personal protective equipment for healthcare workers.
For Immediate Release: June 22, 2020
SafeCare BC’s Operation Protect has reached a significant milestone — 1.25 million pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) have been donated from 605 individuals and organizations.
Operation Protect launched three months ago in response to the shortage of PPE that many continuing care workers faced. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an increased demand for this critically important equipment and disrupted traditional supply channels.
Not only has this donated equipment been delivered to the Ministry of Health’s provincial supply, but we have also directly helped 225 healthcare organizations with emergency supplies of PPE.
“We’ve been consistently heartened by the support Operation Protect has received,” says Jen Lyle, CEO, SafeCare BC. “Whether it’s making a donation of PPE, providing in-kind services or a monetary donation to support the initiative, British Columbians have stepped up in a big way to assist healthcare workers during these challenging times.”
If laid out, the 1.25 million pieces of PPE would stretch 255 km, which is almost the distance from Vancouver to Merritt. And the amount of donated hand sanitizer would fill the gas tanks of 70 cars.
