BURNABY – JUNE 29, 2020 – Operation Protect, an initiative created by SafeCare BC to ensure healthcare workers have critically needed personal protective equipment (PPE), has received a donation of 2,750 litres of hand sanitizer from Conquer COVID-19.
Valued at $25,000, the hand sanitizer was procured by Conquer COVID-19 from Alberta-based Prime Boiler Services, which does business across Western Canada and has been using its resources and knowhow during the COVID-19 pandemic to develop hand sanitizer to address general shortages. Hand sanitizer is essential for ensuring healthcare workers can provide care while mitigating risk of infection and disease transmission. Platinum Pro-Claim Restoration, which has been supporting Conquer COVID-19 efforts in Alberta and British Columbia, will be assisting SafeCare BC with delivering the hand sanitizer to long-term care and home and community care organizations.
“It is inspiring to see businesses and individuals come together to support health care workers in this way,” says Jen Lyle, CEO, SafeCare BC. “We hear firsthand from those working in long-term care, home and community care, and assisted living how grateful they are knowing that protective equipment is available when they need it most.”
“We received tremendous support from communities out west for our PPE collection drives and fundraising efforts, including the tireless efforts of our partner Tony Scott and his team at Platinum Pro-Claim Restoration,” said Laurie Dillon-Schalk, co-founder of Conquer COVID-19 and head of regional partnerships for the organization. “We are pleased to be able to give back in some small way by providing hand sanitizer for BC-based healthcare workers in need.”
SafeCare BC launched Operation Protect in March and has since collected 1.2 million pieces of PPE. Unused and unopened PPE can be donated via www.safecarebc.ca/operationprotect. Questions regarding accepted donations can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
