SAFECARE BC ANNUAL REPORT 2023

Message from the Board Chair

As we reflect on the past year's journey, we are reminded of the challenges and triumphs that have shaped our organization and the continuing care sector. Despite the ongoing challenges, 2024 brought a sense of renewed hope.

We are pleased to share the progress and achievements shaping our journey.

I am delighted to welcome several new team members to SafeCare BC: Dan Keen, Carissa Zargar, Khalida Braid, Cora Schupp (returning), and Kajal Hajirakar. Each brings unique talents and perspectives that enrich our organization. I am confident their contributions will strengthen our efforts to promote workplace health and safety.

The Hearts and Hands conference welcomed a record number of attendees and received overwhelmingly positive feedback, underscoring the value of our collective efforts in organizing such impactful events.

SafeCare BC focused on proactive outreach and engagement to enhance safety and quality of care in the healthcare sector. We provided crucial support on legislative changes, and our continued commitment to mental health support was demonstrated through programs such as Care for Caregivers, Care to Speak, and Leading from the Inside Out. Over the past year, programs saw significant participation, with positive feedback on violence prevention training. Our communications efforts led to increased website traffic and engagement, emphasizing the value of our resources in the healthcare sector.
We're excited about initiatives like the Health and Safety Leaders Forum, which aims to inspire leaders, stimulate discussion, and celebrate collective successes, our 10th Anniversary celebration, new courses, webinars, member surveys and podcasts aimed at destigmatizing mental health by sharing the stories of our members with lived experience.

We thank our members, supporters, healthcare unions, WorkSafeBC, sector partners, sponsors, and associate member partners for their unwavering support. We also acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our SafeCare BC team, whose tireless efforts in supporting health and safety in our members' workplaces continue to inspire us all. I am immensely grateful for their efforts.

As we move forward, SafeCare BC remains committed to creating safe and healthy workplaces where every worker can go home to their families safely at the end of each day. We are here to support you in developing or sustaining comprehensive health and safety plans through training, education, and practical resources.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our shared missionOur strategic partnerships have played a pivotal role in advancing our mission and extending our impact. Continued involvement in SWITCH BC, collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions, and participation in the Health Employers Association of BC demonstrate our commitment to collaborative action and collective progress..

Supporting wellness through healthy, safe, and injury-free workplaces.
