Position type:

Full-time, initial 12-month contract


We are looking for an adult education/instructional design specialist to develop and implement programs and courses for BC’s care workers on the topic of immunization. This work forms the delivery phase of SafeCare BC’s Vaccine Education and Outreach program in partnership with the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Immunization Partnership Fund. The role will include working closely with the project team to build the skills and understanding of a range of audiences in long-term care and home care, including managers, leaders, and frontline care staff. This role offers the scope for creativity and flexibility, and the potential to design e-learning, in-person and hybrid educational opportunities.

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts to establish a vaccine education curriculum, including working with SafeCare BC’s health and safety specialists to link immunization to occupational health and safety initiatives;
  • Present proposed content, audiences and priority topic areas to the Vaccine Education Working Group and SafeCare BC senior leadership;
  • Work with the project team to develop a detailed project plan for curriculum design and implementation;
  • Lead the development of a vaccine education and training program, ensuring that it meets specific learning needs and fulfil organizational goals and requirements
    • This may include development of training materials using adult education theory and best practice related to instructor-led training, including course outlines and descriptions, student modules and e-learning lessons, instructor guides, learning activities, PowerPoint presentations, and other instructional and performance support materials;
  • Design and develop learning objectives and evaluation processes for new training programs;
  • Support engagement with BC’s post-secondary institutions and other Canadian education stakeholders around embedding SafeCare BC’s vaccine education and training into wider curricula for new healthcare workers (such as care aides and nurses)
  • Potential to facilitate instructor-led virtual or in-person training

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience at designing and developing creative learning solutions
  • Experience developing course material in both e-learning and instructor-led environments
  • Working knowledge of various instructional tools such as Articulate 360
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Background in related field, e.g. HR, adult education or instructional design
  • Solid understanding of BC’s care sector and/or experience working with the healthcare sector
  • Some experience and/or understanding of immunization and infection prevention and control (IPAC) preferred
  • Bachelor’s or University degree in related field preferred.

  • Salary of $62,000 – $64,000 per year, plus SafeCare BC employee health benefit plan
