Innovation Idea:
Based on the 8 pillars of Holistic Health (Emotional, Financial,Social,Spiritual,Occupational,Physical,Intellectual,Envirnomental)

Research has shown that Long Term Care Workers are going to be particularly susceptible to getting sick as they have been functioning in a high state of stress and anxiety over the past two years.

8 Days of Wellness will have the following key events:
– Mental Health Monday – the Employer will have counsellors from our EFAP on site where employees can schedule confidential 20 mins sessions.
-Focus Groups where employees can talk in a safe space about their questions and concerns about the change from a pandemic to endemic
-Massage students- 20min massages to support relaxation and stress relief
-Lunch & Learn Sessions

How does your idea improve workplace health and safety?
Healthy habits among employee populations improve health outcomes, all while increasing productivity, optimizing human resource investments and boosting employee engagement.
Psychological safety is a key initiative, the goal is to make mental health resources more accessible and decrease the stigma surrounding mental health issues
Build a culture that supports health, safety and wellbeing for our staff.
Decreases time away from work and incivility in the workplace
Fosters teamwork and comradery
Wellness week creates employee buy in and demonstrates the Employer’s commitment to their staff’s happiness

How did you implement this idea?
We conducted an employee survey to hear from our staff about what they feel is important to their wellbeing at work. Staff completed the Wellness Week bingo cards, and visited our onsite Wellness booths to receive further educational material and healthy food to support them during their shift. Last year’s focus was on physical health and education, where this year’s focus is on psychological safety and mental health awareness.

What has been the impact on workplace health and safety?
Last year’s Wellness Week was very well received by staff. Wellness Week was a tipping point for our organization where we are now investing in 8 days of wellness and designing a Wellness Program that runs the full length of the year.
