A poster that asks two questions: what are you afraid of? and what are you going to do about it? It’s a way to get students and new careworkers to open up about their fears before they are actually working in the field.

How does your idea improve workplace health and safety?
It reduces the stress on new workers by dealing with issues before they have a chance to manifest once they are working. With less stress and agitation, the workers come to work feeling in charge of themselves and they can be more attentive and productive in their work. Feeling scared about something can cause inattention or absenteeism which ultimately will cause stressors at work. These stressors could affect all the staff in a non-productive way and cause resentment. Relaxed and attentive reliable and productive staff makes for a safer working environment.

Tested with a group of students.

What has been the impact on workplace health and safety?
The impact will be new workers and ones who have been working for many years will feel better about themselves and each other and they will be able to communicate if they are feeling uncomfortable about situations that could arise. By being able to voice their fear they will be able to overcome it and then they will be able to be more productive, happier and attentive in their jobs. Which ultimately makes for a happier and safer workplace.
